In Navua, police have taken two 35-year-old men into custody following the discovery of dried marijuana leaves and methamphetamine in their possession. These arrests occurred during a series of police snap checks that have been conducted throughout all five divisions this month.

During an initial operation by the Southern Division Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD SOCIU), officers discovered several sachets containing substances believed to be methamphetamine and marijuana. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu reported that a raid was carried out last Wednesday in Raiwai, located just outside Suva City. The authorities seized not only the drugs but also items thought to be stolen and a mix of foreign and local currency from the suspects, which included two men and a woman. The confiscated items have been sent for further analysis.

In addition to these arrests, police executed further snap checks at a roadblock on Bagasau road in Savusavu. Officers from the Tukavesi Police Station uncovered a black bag filled with dried leaves suspected to be marijuana during a search of a bus’s luggage compartment. In the Western Division, two individuals were also apprehended on Monday night after officers seized dried leaves believed to be marijuana from their vehicle on Sabeto Road in Nadi.

According to ACP Driu, the snap checks have proven effective, leading to successful outcomes. The police department plans to continue these joint operations across all five divisions, reinforcing their commitment to curb drug-related activities.

This proactive approach by law enforcement highlights the ongoing battle against drug use and trafficking in the region. Such initiatives not only enhance public safety but also aim to deter illegal activities, fostering a healthier community for all.

Overall, the police’s continued efforts to maintain order through regular checks and community policing can be seen as a positive step toward ensuring safety and reinforcing community trust in law enforcement.
