Two individuals, both aged 35, have been arrested by police in Navua after they were found in possession of dried marijuana leaves and methamphetamine. These arrests took place amid a series of police snap checks conducted across five divisions this month.
The first incident occurred during a snap check organized by the Southern Division Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD SOCIU), supported by the K9 and Fiji Detector Dog Unit. On Wednesday, a raid in Raiwai, near Suva City, led to the discovery of white substances suspected to be methamphetamine, various stolen items, and both foreign and local currency.
In addition to these arrests, a third suspect— a woman— was detained for their alleged involvement with the illicit substances. The items confiscated have since been sent for analysis.
Other police operations included a checkpoint at a Bagasau roadway in Savusavu, where officers from the Tukavesi Police Station discovered a black bag containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana while inspecting the luggage compartment of a bus. Additionally, in the Western Division, a vehicle stop on Monday night resulted in the arrest of two passengers who had marijuana-like substances in their possession on Sabeto Road, Nadi.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu emphasized the effectiveness of these snap checks and indicated that joint raids would persist within the five police divisions, underscoring the commitment of law enforcement to combating drug-related crime.
Overall, these police efforts reflect a proactive approach in addressing drug issues, contributing to community safety and well-being. It is encouraging to see authorities taking strong action against illegal substances, which can lead to a more secure environment for the public.
In summary, two men have been arrested in Navua for drug possession, part of ongoing police operations aimed at curbing illegal activities in the region.
