Two 35-year-old men were arrested by police in Navua after they were found in possession of dried marijuana leaves and methamphetamine. These arrests were part of a series of police snap checks taking place across all five divisions this month.
The Southern Division Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD SOCIU), along with the K9 and Fiji Detector Dog Unit, conducted a significant raid last Wednesday in Raiwai, just outside Suva City. During the operation, police confiscated substances believed to be methamphetamine, along with items suspected to be stolen and both foreign and local currencies. Two men and a woman were apprehended, and the seized items have been sent for forensic analysis.
Additional snap checks were carried out at a roadblock in Bagasau, Savusavu, where officers discovered a black bag filled with dried leaves believed to be marijuana hidden in the luggage compartment of a bus. In the Western Division, two individuals were arrested during a vehicle check on Sabeto Road, Nadi, after police seized several branches of what is believed to be marijuana from them.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu noted that the results from these snap checks have been promising, indicating that the ongoing joint operations across the police divisions will persist in an effort to combat illegal drugs.
This proactive approach by law enforcement not only aims to dismantle drug-related activities but also enhances public safety within communities. The commitment shown by the police highlights the importance of community involvement in reporting suspicious activities, ultimately working towards a safer environment for everyone.
In conclusion, the diligent efforts of the police demonstrate a significant step toward tackling illegal drug use and related crimes, fostering a collective sense of security throughout the nation.
