Police Conduct Snap Checkpoints and Searches, Seize Illicit Substances

Snap checkpoints and searches continue to yield positive seizures of illicit substances.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu stated that divisional task forces are setting up checkpoints based on tips and information gathered and conducting searches on individuals found to be acting in a suspicious manner.

ACP Driu reported that a Southern Division team carried out a spot check yesterday on a group of youths loitering at a shopping complex in Laucala Beach. A man in his 20s was found with dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

In the Northern Division, a tip led to the arrest of a man involved in the alleged sale and distribution of illicit drugs, specifically marijuana. Information gathered indicated that the suspect had received a supply intended for sale today.

A search conducted at the suspect’s home resulted in the seizure of several clear plastics containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana. The suspect remains in police custody.

ACP Driu mentioned that other raids and snap checks conducted throughout the week resulted in the seizure of illicit drugs, including methamphetamine and marijuana.

He added that the current momentum of operations sees an aggressive approach taken by divisional task forces, with snap checkpoints and search efforts enforced to disrupt, dismantle, and destabilize the illicit trade.

“Those we find loitering or acting in a suspicious manner will be searched and warned to leave if they do not have any valid reason for being where they’re found. We are going to be aggressive in our intent to reduce the harm and supply of drugs.”
