Police Chief Calls for Accountability: A New Era in Fiji’s Law Enforcement?

Officers under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa, the Divisional Police Commander Western, have been called upon to minimize complaints by rigorously following established protocols and guidelines.

In his address during the divisional parade at the conclusion of the fourth quarter, the chief of the Western Division cautioned officers serving from Rakiraki to Sigatoka.

SSP Vaisewa emphasized the importance of prioritizing every report equally and providing the necessary advice where needed. He stated, “No complaint should be taken lightly, and the complainant should receive the appropriate guidance so they are satisfied.”

He also reiterated the Acting Commissioner of Police’s zero-tolerance stance on police involvement in criminal activities, highlighting that any officer found misusing their position for personal gain through illegal means will face serious repercussions.

According to SSP Vaisewa, the public expects police officers to either meet the standards of their duties or step aside if they cannot. The community anticipates a more responsive policing approach.
