Police in Navua have arrested two 35-year-old men after they were found in possession of dried marijuana leaves and methamphetamine. These arrests were part of ongoing police operations, which have included snap checks across all five divisions this month.
The Southern Division Crime and Intelligence Unit (SD SOCIU), alongside K9 and the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, conducted a significant raid in Raiwai, just outside Suva City, last Wednesday, where they discovered white substances believed to be methamphetamine, several allegedly stolen items, as well as both foreign and local currencies. In this operation, besides the two men, a woman was also apprehended, and the seized substances have been sent for further analysis.
In addition to these arrests, officers at a roadblock on Bagasau road in Savusavu conducted searches of a bus, uncovering a black bag filled with dried leaves thought to be marijuana. Furthermore, in the Western Division, police arrested two additional individuals on Monday night at Sabeto Road in Nadi, seizing more dried leaves presumed to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has stated that these snap checks are proving effective, and police will continue their collaborative efforts across all five divisions to maintain safety and curb illegal drug activities.
This situation highlights the proactive measures being taken by law enforcement to combat drug-related issues, reflecting a commitment to community safety. The continuation of these operations can foster a more secure environment, ultimately benefiting the larger community by addressing drug use and trade.
Overall, these police activities reiterate the importance of vigilance and cooperation within communities to help reduce crime and promote a healthier society.
