Police have taken two men into custody following the discovery of parcels containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana. The operation, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu, took place at the suspects’ residence on Cunningham Old Road. Law enforcement officials seized over 40 large parcels, more than 400 sachets, and a bottle of seeds, all suspected to be related to marijuana.

ACP Driu emphasized the importance of this raid, stating that the suspected illegal substances were likely to be sold, prompting further investigations into their source and any potential proceeds of crime. He noted that there is typically a rise in drug sales during the festive season as individuals seek to make extra income.

In light of these concerns, police are collaborating with various stakeholders, including community leaders, religious organizations, and civil society groups, to enhance public awareness about the dangers of illicit drugs. This proactive approach aims to disrupt and dismantle the networks engaged in drug distribution.

As the investigation unfolds, the two men remain in custody, and the seized materials have been sent for analysis.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug-related activities, particularly as the festive season approaches. By fostering community partnerships and increasing awareness of the risks of drug use, the police aim to create a safer environment for all.

In summary, the police’s proactive measures against drug distribution demonstrate a commitment to public safety and community engagement, paving the way for a healthier society.
