The intensity of policing efforts is set to increase as the community approaches the conclusion of two significant festivals along with a two-week school holiday. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, reported that several arrests have been made related to illegal drug possession as officers conduct on-foot patrols and spot checks.
So far, three individuals have been arrested on suspicion of possessing substances believed to be marijuana and methamphetamine, which are currently undergoing analysis. In addition to these arrests, ACP Driu noted that officers have found numerous unattended and unlocked vehicles, some of which had valuables on display, creating easy opportunities for theft.
There have also been two reports of missing children; however, they were successfully reunited with their families at the Hibiscus police tent near the main civic center. ACP Driu expressed concern over the presence of young people loitering in public spaces and urged parents and guardians to consistently monitor their children’s whereabouts.
Furthermore, he warned nightclub operators not to permit minors on their premises, as officers encountered young individuals outside these venues and instructed them to disperse. The Fiji Police Force continues to advocate for community cooperation, emphasizing the importance of following safety and security guidelines and encouraging a proactive mindset towards personal safety at all times.
