Four police officers face charges of assault resulting in actual bodily harm, rape, and accepting bribes, according to a police statement. These charges were brought forth last month.

In addition, the police reported 22 serious assault incidents involving officers during October. Despite these assaults, there was a noted decline in robbery and aggravated robbery cases within the same timeframe. However, the police recorded a rise in illicit drug-related offenses tied to an increase in activity across the Southern, Western, and Central Divisions.

A total of 181 drug-related cases were documented, predominantly involving the unlawful possession of illicit substances. Among these, 160 cases were attributed to marijuana, with 20 related to methamphetamine and one involving cocaine.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew emphasized that the uptick in drug cases is indicative of ongoing efforts to combat illegal drug networks, aided by community support. He underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in fostering safe communities as the festive season operation has been launched with various stakeholders.

This situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement while also emphasizing the community’s role in supporting police efforts against crime. As authorities remain committed to enhancing safety and addressing drug-related issues, there is hope that unity and collaboration will yield positive outcomes for the community.

In summary, while police confront serious internal challenges, their proactive approach to drug offenses, supported by community partnerships, signals a determined effort to create a safer environment.
