Five police officers were charged last month with various offenses, including assault causing actual bodily harm, serious assaults, and unlawful possession of illicit drugs. All officers are currently on leave pending the results of their court cases. Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew has emphasized the organization’s dedication to fairness and transparency, highlighting the importance of holding officers accountable for failing to uphold the laws they are meant to enforce. He noted that the rise in reports is also linked to increased public confidence in reporting these issues, spurred by enhanced community awareness and outreach initiatives.
