Five police officers were charged last month with various offenses, including assault resulting in actual bodily harm, serious assaults, and unlawful possession of illegal drugs. All the officers have been placed on interdiction while their court cases are pending. Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew has reiterated the organization’s commitment to fairness and transparency, emphasizing the importance of holding officers accountable for their actions when they do not adhere to the laws they are tasked with enforcing. He noted that the rise in reported incidents is partly due to the growing confidence in reporting, which has been fostered by increased community awareness and outreach initiatives.
