Papua New Guinea made a stunning debut in the OFC Beach Soccer Men’s Nations Cup, defeating Fiji 8-6 with an impressive start in their first international match.
Fiji was expected to win based on their performance leading up to the match, but Papua New Guinea had other plans. Fiji’s six goals came from Adriu Nabose, an own goal, Steven Dean, Navu Willie, and Rajneel Singh. The team was missing key players, including captain Tevita Waranivalu and Madhwan Gounder, who arrived late in Honiara, according to reports from OFC.
The tournament continues with today’s schedule: at 2 PM, Fiji will face Tahiti, followed by Solomons against Papua New Guinea at 4 PM. Tomorrow’s matches feature Papua New Guinea versus Tahiti at 2 PM and the Solomons against Fiji at 4 PM. The final matches will take place on Friday, with a third-place play-off at 2 PM and the final at 4 PM.
