PM Rabuka Advocates for Commission of Inquiry Amid FICAC Controversy

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that establishing a Commission of Inquiry is the most suitable and unbiased method to investigate allegations surrounding the operations of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

This comment from PM Rabuka came in response to inquiries from local media about an interview conducted with Francis Pulewai, the former Acting Deputy Commissioner of FICAC, by international media.

The Prime Minister emphasized that an independent commission would be more capable of addressing the concerns raised by Pulewai, especially those related to alleged interference by ministers in FICAC’s investigations.

“If an inquiry reveals that there was indeed undue interference, the appropriate actions recommended by the Commission of Inquiry must be taken,” Rabuka noted.

He stressed that there have been no alterations to the legislative framework governing FICAC, reaffirming the government’s commitment to upholding the law.

Regarding claims that Pulewai had faced threats, the Prime Minister denounced any such actions, asserting that he had not been informed of such threats, nor had they been reported to him or to the Fiji Police.
