Pinktober Initiative: Sigatoka Comes Together for Women’s Health

Women from Soroptimist International (SI) kicked off their annual Pinktober campaign in Sigatoka earlier this month. This non-governmental organization is dedicated to raising awareness and providing support for women and girls in the Nadroga and Navosa provinces.

During the event, Dr. Elizabeth Dass, the acting sub-divisional medical officer of Sigatoka, highlighted the importance of early detection, pointing out that many cancer patients typically seek help at advanced stages of the disease. She expressed optimism that the collaboration with Soroptimist International of Sigatoka would enhance women’s health in the community.

Krishna Chand Sharma, president of the Sigatoka Market Vendors Association, expressed their enthusiasm for supporting the initiative by adorning their stalls with pink decorations. Suman Lal, a member of the Soroptimist International Sigatoka chapter, recognized the essential contributions of key partners in the campaign, which include the Sigatoka Town Council, the sub-divisional medical officer’s office, Sigatoka Hospital, and the Market Vendors Association.
