Pacific Specialists Healthcare (PSH) recently introduced Pill Cams, or Capsule Endoscopy, prompting the hospital to order additional supplies to ensure uninterrupted services. The hospital’s director and CEO, Parvish Kumar, stated that the demand for the pill cam service has surged since it was announced. To prevent any disruption in service, he confirmed that orders for more units have already been placed and are expected to arrive within a week.
“We maintain a stock that lasts a minimum of three months at all times to avoid running out,” Kumar stated. He emphasized the hospital’s commitment to managing supply chain logistics carefully to minimize disruptions and mentioned ongoing strategies to enhance this process. Kumar expressed surprise at the high level of demand for the new technology used in diagnosing digestive tract issues, indicating that they anticipated only a modest increase in demand compared to conventional methods.
He noted the significance of the capsule endoscopy system in detecting bowel cancer, advising individuals over the age of 65 to undergo the procedure every two years. “We were astonished by the number of patients seeking this service,” he added.
The capsule endoscopy procedure involves swallowing a small capsule equipped with a camera, allowing doctors to visualize the entire small intestine, which is otherwise inaccessible during traditional endoscopy. This non-invasive method provides a comprehensive view of the small bowel, aiding in the diagnosis and monitoring of digestive tract conditions.
Moreover, PSH Nadi has experienced an increase in patients, including tourists seeking medical evaluations and treatments. Some visitors have arrived in critical condition, requiring stabilization before being evacuated back to their home countries.
The hospital’s 24-hour operation and the availability of skilled medical professionals have contributed to this influx. Kumar also announced plans to introduce several new technologies that will significantly enhance healthcare services in Fiji. His vision is to deliver world-class medical procedures and treatments to Fiji and the broader Pacific region while ensuring affordability for local patients.
“We are prepared to offer open-heart surgery among other intensive healthcare services,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to making medical care accessible at lower costs and facilitating payment plans. As a local resident, Kumar understands the healthcare landscape deeply and is continuously assessing ways to improve affordability and promote universal health coverage.
