Pacific Specialists Healthcare recently introduced Pill Cams, or Capsule Endoscopy, prompting the hospital to place additional orders to maintain service continuity.
Director and CEO Parvish Kumar noted that the demand for the pill cam service surged significantly after its launch. “We have already placed orders for more, which we expect to receive within a week,” Mr. Kumar stated, emphasizing the importance of avoiding service interruptions.
“We always ensure we have a stock supply for at least three months to prevent any shortages. We are actively monitoring our supply chain logistics and exploring strategies to minimize disruptions,” he added.
Mr. Kumar expressed surprise over the high demand for this new diagnostic technology for the digestive tract, initially expecting a modest increase of 4 to 5 percent compared to traditional methods. “We didn’t anticipate such a strong response. This tool is crucial in detecting bowel cancer, and individuals over 65 should undergo this screening every two years,” he suggested, commenting on the significant turnout for the procedure.
Capsule endoscopy is a non-invasive technique that allows doctors to visualize the small intestine, which is difficult to reach with traditional endoscopy. The process involves swallowing a capsule equipped with a tiny camera, capturing images of the small bowel as it passes through the digestive system.
Additionally, PSH in Nadi has seen an increase in both locals and tourists seeking medical checks and treatments. “We have had tourists arriving in critical condition, and we stabilized them through Medivac arrangements before they returned home,” Mr. Kumar reported, noting that the hospital’s 24-hour operation with expert medical staff has contributed to this uptick in patients.
Looking ahead, PSH plans to introduce various new technologies to enhance healthcare services in Fiji. “Our goal is to provide world-class medical procedures for both Fiji and the Pacific Islands. We are prepared to offer open-heart surgery among other intensive treatments while making these services affordable for local and Pacific Island patients through flexible payment plans,” Mr. Kumar concluded. As a local, he is dedicated to improving healthcare financing and promoting universal health coverage in the region.
