Pacific Specialists Healthcare recently introduced Pill Cams, also known as Capsule Endoscopy, which has led the hospital to place additional orders to ensure continued service availability. The hospital’s director and CEO, Parvish Kumar, emphasized the high demand for this service since its announcement.
“We have already ordered more, which we expect to receive within a week to prevent any disruptions in service,” Mr. Kumar stated. “We always maintain a stock that covers a minimum of three months to avoid running low on supplies. We are mindful of supply chain logistics and are actively working on strategies to minimize disruptions.”
Kumar acknowledged the unexpected demand for this innovative digestive tract examination technology, noting that their initial expectations were about a 4 to 5 percent interest compared to traditional methods, based on data from neighboring countries. He advocates for the use of this technology, especially for individuals over 65, recommending screenings every two years to help detect bowel cancer.
The capsule endoscopy system consists of a tiny ingestible capsule that allows doctors to visualize the entire small intestine, which plays a key role in digestion and metabolic processes. The procedure is non-invasive and involves the patient swallowing a capsule similar in size to a large vitamin, containing a camera and light source to capture images as it passes through the digestive tract.
Additionally, PSH Nadi has reported an increase in both tourist and local patients seeking treatment for various medical conditions. Some tourists have required stabilization before being medically evacuated back to their home countries. The rise in patient numbers is partly attributed to PSH’s 24-hour operation, providing access to expert medical professionals.
Looking ahead, Kumar revealed that PSH is preparing to introduce more advanced medical technologies that would significantly enhance healthcare services in Fiji. He aims to deliver world-class medical procedures and is particularly focused on providing affordable healthcare solutions for local residents and those from Pacific Island nations. Emphasizing his commitment as a local, Kumar is dedicated to making healthcare financing more accessible and promoting universal health coverage.
