The Pacific Islands Forum Troika mission to New Caledonia is set to take place in early October, as confirmed by Secretary General Baron Waqa during a press conference this afternoon. He noted that foreign leaders have expressed their support for the Troika mission and discussions are ongoing with both the local government and France regarding the deployment.
The Forum has been collaborating with the French State and the New Caledonian Government to align the mission’s objectives with the expectations of involved stakeholders. The mission was previously postponed last month due to concerns raised by the New Caledonia Government about due process and protocol.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will participate in the delegation. The Forum Troika serves as a crucial regional political consultative mechanism, composed of Forum Leaders and essential for advancing regional initiatives.
