The National Development Plan for 2025-2029 is designed with the public in mind, as it results from extensive consultations with citizens across various sectors.
At the plan’s launch in Suva, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad emphasized that over 21,000 individuals were engaged, including representatives from civil society, industry, law enforcement, academia, students, and religious groups, to gather insights into their concerns and aspirations.
“This plan is a reflection of our people’s hopes and desires,” stated Prof Prasad. He underscored that the main goal of the initiative is to enhance social wellbeing and create sustainable prosperity for the population.
“It is essential that everyone experiences an improvement in their quality of life, with no one feeling marginalized or left behind,” he added.
Prof Prasad outlined that the Coalition Government aims to establish clear targets for the next three to five years.
“In the initial three years, our priority will be to tackle urgent issues, essentially ‘getting the basics right,’” he said. This will focus on providing clean drinking water, enhancing road and drainage systems, upgrading healthcare facilities, and improving access to affordable housing and educational infrastructure, particularly in the most impacted areas.
