People’s Voices Shape National Development Plan 2025-2029

The National Development Plan for 2025-2029 has been termed the “people’s plan” due to its creation through extensive consultations with citizens from various backgrounds. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad made this statement during the plan’s launch in Suva this morning.

He revealed that over 21,000 individuals were consulted, including representatives from civil society organizations, industry groups, disciplined forces, academia, students, and faith-based organizations. This engagement was aimed at understanding the public’s concerns and gathering their views and suggestions.

“This plan embodies the aspirations of our people, reflecting their concerns and desires,” Professor Prasad noted. He emphasized that the primary goal is to enhance social well-being and foster sustainable prosperity for all citizens.

“Every individual should experience a sense of growth and a noticeable improvement in their quality of life, ensuring no one is left behind or feels deprived,” he added.

Professor Prasad also indicated that the Coalition Government will establish clear targets for achievements within the three and five-year periods. “In the first three years, we will focus on tackling critical issues that require immediate attention, essentially ‘getting the basics right.’ This includes providing clean drinking water, improving road and drainage systems, upgrading healthcare facilities, and enhancing affordable housing and school infrastructure in the most affected areas.”

Further details on this development will be featured in the major bulletin at 6 pm on Fiji One.
