The National Development Plan for 2025-2029 has been described as a “people’s plan,” crafted through extensive discussions with citizens from diverse backgrounds. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad made this statement during the plan’s launch held in Suva.
He noted that over 21,000 individuals participated in consultations, including representatives from civil society organizations, industry sectors, law enforcement, academic institutions, students, and faith-based groups. This effort aimed to gather people’s concerns as well as their suggestions and ideas.
“This plan truly embodies the aspirations of our community, capturing their worries and desires,” Prof Prasad remarked. He emphasized that the primary goal of the plan is to enhance social well-being and foster sustainable prosperity for all citizens.
Everyone is expected to experience a sense of enrichment and a measurable improvement in their quality of life, with an emphasis on ensuring that no one feels marginalized or deprived, he stated.
Prof Prasad also highlighted that the Coalition Government aims to set clear targets for achievements over the next three and five years. The initial three years will focus on critical issues that require urgent attention, which he described as “getting the basics right.”
Key areas of focus will include ensuring access to clean drinking water, improving infrastructure such as roads and drainage, upgrading healthcare facilities, providing affordable housing, and enhancing school infrastructure in the most affected regions.
More details about this initiative will be covered in the major news bulletin at 6 PM on Fiji One.
