Brian Pulefolau, recognized for his unwavering commitment to the Pasifika community in south Auckland, has been honored by the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) for his service as the Supervisor of Security Guard Forces at Papakura Military Camp. Brigadier Rob Krushka presented Mr. Pulefolau with a Commendation for Exceptional Leadership, highlighting his professionalism and dedication as key qualities the Defence Force values in its personnel.
Mr. Pulefolau, originally from Niue, joined the NZDF in 2013 and has been leading the security team at the Papakura camp since 2018. His role encompasses essential security tasks, including managing guest reservations, overseeing emergency procedures, and ensuring his team’s training.
In addition to his security responsibilities, Mr. Pulefolau has initiated several health and wellness programs at the camp, which have positively impacted the well-being of his staff and their families, with many achieving milestones such as home ownership. He expressed his commitment to his team by stating his desire to make a difference beyond his official duties.
Mr. Pulefolau also shares life skills with his team, including fishing, using repurposed equipment from departing soldiers. His contributions extend beyond the camp, as he actively participates in the Pasifika community both locally and internationally. He is known for his volunteer work around the community, including disposal of recycled goods to the Pacific Islands and co-founding the Pasifika Autism Assist Group with his wife, which supports families with autistic members.
In recognition of his community initiatives, he received the Volunteer of the Year Award from Autism New Zealand in 2016.
