The Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, has announced that, based on legal counsel, the new decision made by Parliament in May is now in effect, as stipulated by Section 11 of the Parliamentary Remuneration Act 2014. During a session in Parliament, Ratu Naiqama stated that this new determination has resulted in the revocation of the 2020 Determination. The 2024 Determination establishes that Members of Parliament will receive salaries at 100 percent, with this change taking effect from August 2024. He confirmed that Members of Parliament are now compensated at this full rate.
