Parliamentary Turmoil: Apologies Amidst Unruly Debate

The Minister for Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh, offered an apology to the House for his disruptive conduct and inappropriate language during his Ministerial Statement last Tuesday. In his remarks, Singh stated, “I would like to apologise to the House for any language or untoward comments I may have used in this House that may have offended any individual Member.”

Additionally, Opposition MP Praveen Bala also apologized under Standing Order 80, expressing regret if he had caused any offense through his use of unparliamentary language.

In response, Speaker of Parliament Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum within the legislative body. He remarked, “I would like to implore you honourable Members of this august House to keep the decorum always.”

Ratu Naiqama pointed out that the proceedings are observed by the public, including children, who should see a respectful and composed atmosphere. He noted that members seem to escalate their emotions rapidly, suggesting that it could be related to their personal concerns.
