The parliamentary session scheduled for today has been canceled due to a three-day water supply disruption affecting the Nausori-Suva area. Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, announced yesterday that parliamentary proceedings would be suspended.

In an advisory from the Parliament of the Republic of Fiji, it was stated that Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) concerns made it inadequate to ensure proper hygiene standards within the parliamentary complex amidst the disruption. The advisory confirmed that Parliament will remain closed tomorrow and will resume normal operations on Monday, October 7, 2024.

In the meantime, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has confirmed that schools will remain open today. He mentioned that the ministry is collaborating closely with the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) to ensure schools have an adequate water supply during classes.

Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau has reassured the public that WAF is prepared to handle the scheduled water disruption. He indicated that water trucks would be on standby, and residents in the Nausori-Suva corridor needing water assistance should reach out to WAF.

Those affected are encouraged to contact WAF’s toll-free number 334 6777, shortcode 5777 (accessible from all mobile networks), use the WAF Mobile App, or email contact@waf.com.fj for support.
