The Parliamentary session scheduled for today has been canceled due to a three-day water supply disruption affecting the Nausori-Suva area.

Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, announced the suspension of proceedings yesterday. An advisory from the Parliament of the Republic of Fiji cited Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) concerns as the reason for the cancellation, stating that the necessary preparations for the water outage would not meet hygiene standards in the Parliamentary complex.

The advisory further confirmed, “Parliament will be closed tomorrow and will resume normal operations on Monday, October 7, 2024.”

In related news, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has confirmed that schools will remain open today. He mentioned that the ministry is coordinating with the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) to ensure schools have adequate water supply throughout the classes.

Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau reassured the public that WAF is ready to manage the planned water interruption. He stated, “Water trucks will be on standby, and if residents in the Nausori-Suva corridor require water, they should contact WAF.”

Affected individuals are encouraged to reach out to WAF via their toll-free number 334 6777, shortcode 5777 (available on all mobile networks), the WAF Mobile App, or by emailing contact@waf.com.fj for assistance.
