The Parliamentary session has been canceled today due to a three-day water outage impacting the Nausori-Suva area. Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, announced the suspension of proceedings yesterday.

A notice from the Parliament of the Republic of Fiji indicated that, owing to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) concerns, the necessary preparations for the water disruption were inadequate to uphold hygiene standards within the Parliamentary complex. The advisory confirmed that Parliament would be closed today and is set to resume normal operations on Monday, October 7, 2024.

In related news, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro confirmed that schools will remain open today. He stated that the ministry is collaborating closely with the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) to ensure a sufficient water supply for schools during this period.

Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau reassured the public that WAF is prepared to handle the upcoming water disruption. He mentioned that water trucks will be on standby, and residents in the Nausori-Suva area in need of water should contact WAF for support.

Affected citizens are encouraged to reach out to WAF’s toll-free number 334 6777, shortcode 5777 (available on all mobile networks), the WAF Mobile App, or via email at contact@waf.com.fj for assistance.
