The Parliament will not convene today due to a scheduled three-day water outage impacting the Nausori-Suva corridor. Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, announced that parliamentary sessions would be suspended.

According to an advisory from the Parliament of the Republic of Fiji, the closure is necessary because of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) concerns, which ensure that the preparatory measures related to the water disruption do not meet the required hygiene standards at the parliamentary facility.

The advisory confirmed, “Parliament will be closed today and is set to resume normal operations on Monday, October 7, 2024.”

In contrast, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has assured that schools will remain open today. He indicated that the ministry is collaborating closely with the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) to guarantee that schools receive enough water supply for the duration of classes.

Minister for Public Works Ro Filipe Tuisawau has reassured the public that WAF is equipped to handle the anticipated water disruption. He stated, “Water trucks will be on standby, and if individuals in the Nausori-Suva corridor require water, they should contact WAF.”

Residents impacted by the water cuts are encouraged to reach out to WAF using their toll-free number 334 6777, shortcode 5777 (accessible on all mobile networks), or through the WAF Mobile App, and can also send an email to contact@waf.com.fj for assistance.
