Members of Parliament and the Parliament secretariat gathered to bid farewell to Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, the Speaker of Parliament and President-elect, during a formal session yesterday. This occasion provided an opportunity to honor his leadership and contributions over the past two years, as he prepares to step into his new role as Head of State.
In his farewell address, Ratu Naiqama emphasized the importance of continuity in public service, remarking, “I will be going across to the other side of the ground just to continue the work there. I’m not there to finish it, I’m just there to continue the work.”
Viliame Naupoto, speaking on behalf of all Members and Parliament staff, expressed gratitude for Ratu Naiqama’s exemplary leadership and dedication during his time in office. He said, “We wish to express our sincere gratitude for your wisdom, sound leadership, guidance and kind heart for leading the Parliament of Fiji over the past two years.”
Ratu Naiqama is set to take the Oath of Office as the President of Fiji at the State House on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 11 am.
This transition marks a significant leadership change in Fiji, with Ratu Naiqama’s commitment to public service highlighting a smooth evolution of governance. His focus on continuity bodes well for the future, suggesting that the efforts made during his tenure as Speaker will be built upon in his upcoming role as President.
