Parents Urged to Prioritize Children’s Future for a Better Society

The chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs, Ratu Viliame Seruvakula, emphasized the importance of parental involvement during a passing-out parade at Ratu Sukuna Memorial School. He called on parents and guardians to prioritize their family responsibilities over personal interests, highlighting that their roles are crucial in shaping the future of society.

Ratu Seruvakula acknowledged the foundational work done by teachers and members of the RFMF but stressed that the onus now falls on parents to support their children’s development as they navigate various challenges. He noted that children’s understanding of the dangers they face is often limited, and it is vital to shield them from inheriting societal issues.

He pointed out serious threats such as sexual violation, drug abuse, and child trafficking that pose risks to today’s youth. Ratu Seruvakula urged parents to refrain from prioritizing personal leisure activities over their children’s welfare, reminding them of their moral duty to provide the best possible upbringing.

In his plea, he questioned whether parents truly want their children to grow up in a society marked by injustice and selfishness, prompting them to reflect on their responsibilities to foster a nurturing environment for the next generation.
