The applications for the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Program and the New Zealand Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) Work Scheme will remain suspended until further notice. The Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations had previously indicated that applications were expected to reopen on January 1, 2025.
PS Maritino Nemani emphasized the Ministry’s focus on addressing the existing backlog of applications, stating, “We are committed to processing current applications effectively to manage them efficiently.” He acknowledged the significance of these labor mobility programs for the Fijian community and reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to resuming new client registrations as soon as possible.
Updates concerning the status of the programs will be communicated to the public through media channels as they become available.
This situation, while presenting challenges for many, highlights the government’s commitment to ensuring a fair and efficient application process. The focus on resolving the current backlog indicates a responsible approach that prioritizes both applicants and program integrity.
In summary, while there is a temporary pause, there is hope for the future as the Ministry is actively working towards reinstating the programs, ultimately benefiting the Fijian workforce in the long run.
