Pacific Youth Athletes Set for 2025 SSAG02: The Next Big Stage!

The Oceania National Olympic Committees (ONOC) have announced an invitation to all National Olympic Committees (NOCs), National Sports Federations, and School-Based Associations across the Pacific to participate in the 2025 School Sport Australia Games (SSAG02). This second edition of the event follows the success of the inaugural games held in 2024, significantly increasing opportunities for young athletes.

In the inaugural event, notable participation included 51 swimmers from Fiji and 9 from the Cook Islands, showcasing the talent present in the region. The upcoming SSAG02 will take place from July 26 to August 1, 2025, in Moreton Bay and Brisbane, Queensland, featuring a wide array of sports. The games will host both Olympic and non-Olympic sports including basketball, netball, football (soccer), rugby league, Australian football, bowls, golf, swimming, and diving.

This event provides a vital platform for young athletes to gain international experience and is integral in their journey towards future milestones, such as the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal, as well as the 2028 and 2032 Olympics in Los Angeles and Brisbane respectively.

In light of the value of this opportunity, NOCs are encouraged to coordinate with their national sports federations and school associations to ensure athletes do not miss out. Participation confirmations are requested by February 14, 2025, with final team entries due by May 1, 2025.

This initiative aligns with ONOC’s ongoing commitment to promoting sports development across the Pacific, potentially leading to a stronger presence at future international competitions. With continuing support for youth athletes, the future of sports in the Pacific region looks promising as these young talents prepare to make their mark on the world stage.
