Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) Australia, an agency under the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), reported facilitating trade deals totaling $A76.5 million (approximately $F114.32 million) in 2023. This included a record investment of $A16.3 million ($F24.36 million) through its export and tourism streams.

The agency released its 2023 annual report last week, highlighting its accomplishments. PTI emphasized that its trade team is dedicated to working with businesses throughout the Blue Pacific to expand their reach in the Australian market. This effort includes connecting businesses with buyers, importers, and providing essential digital tools to enhance consumer engagement.

In addition, PTI’s investment team plays a vital role in linking international investors with viable opportunities in the Pacific region, significantly contributing to business and job growth. Last year, PTI assisted 725 businesses, with 357 of them being women-led, facilitated 203 export deals, and provided a total of 850 services.

“PTI Australia has experienced notable growth in recent years,” stated Jeremy Grennell, officer in charge of PTI Australia. “We have strengthened our operational models and are always seeking improvement to better serve our clients and foster valuable connections in the Australian market for Pacific businesses.”

The previous year saw the organization focusing on understanding global digital solutions to connect clients accordingly, resulting in impactful outcomes. PTI enhanced its digital infrastructure and introduced online learning and sales strategies.

Onorina Fugawai, PTI Australia’s tourism manager, noted the importance of adaptability for Pacific tourism operators amid the rapid changes in the global landscape and online services. She remarked that the previous year marked a significant period for the tourism sector as it began to recover from extensive pandemic-related disruptions. Along with recovery challenges, many operators were undergoing digital transformations to improve guest booking processes, expand payment options, and reach broader audiences.

PTI Australia’s digital tourism program played a crucial role in this transition by providing Pacific tourism operators with necessary tools and knowledge to establish a secure online presence. Founded in 1979, PTI Australia is funded by the Australian Government and is dedicated to facilitating trade and investment in the Pacific Islands.
