Pacific Trade Invest (PTI) Australia, part of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, has successfully facilitated trade deals amounting to AUD 76.5 million (FJD 114.32 million) across two focused areas: export and tourism, along with a remarkable AUD 16.3 million (FJD 24.36 million) in investment deals.

In a statement released last week, PTI highlighted its accomplishments in the newly issued 2023 annual report. The organization stated that its trade team collaborates with businesses throughout the Blue Pacific to enhance opportunities for growth within the Australian market. This includes introductions to buyers and importers, as well as providing the necessary digital solutions to reach consumers effectively.

Additionally, PTI’s investment team works to connect international investors with investment-ready opportunities throughout the Pacific, playing a crucial role in developing both businesses and employment.

Throughout 2023, PTI Australia assisted 725 businesses in the Pacific, with 357 being led by women, facilitated 203 export deals, and provided a total of 850 services. Jeremy Grennell, PTI Australia’s acting officer in charge, noted the organization’s recent growth, stating, “We have strengthened our operational models and are always seeking new ways to enhance our reach and create valuable connections for Pacific businesses in the Australian market.”

He further emphasized that the previous year was dedicated to exploring global digital solutions and connecting clients, which significantly influenced their results. “We improved our digital infrastructure and facilitated online learning and sales funnels among other initiatives.”

Onorina Fugawai, PTI Australia’s tourism manager, highlighted the importance of adaptability for Pacific tourism operators amidst rapid changes in the global landscape and online markets. She noted that the previous year was crucial for the tourism industry as it began to recover from an extended period of pandemic-related disruptions.

“Many Pacific operators also focused on their digital transformations, striving to enable direct guest bookings, explore varied payment methods, and reach broader audiences,” Ms. Fugawai explained. She added that PTI Australia’s digital tourism program has been instrumental in equipping tourism operators with the necessary tools to transition their businesses online securely.

Established in 1979, PTI Australia is an agency of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat funded by the Australian Government to promote trade and investment in the Pacific Islands.
