Pacific Media Under Pressure: Insights from the 7th PINA Summit

The 7th PINA Media Summit commenced this morning in Niue, gathering delegates from across the Pacific to address issues impacting the region’s media sector.

Niue Prime Minister Dalton Tagelagi, in his opening remarks, expressed his deep honor in hosting members of the Pacific media. He emphasized the importance of creating a platform for vibrant discussions on critical media issues that also affect regional communities.

“This year’s summit theme underscores the challenges Pacific media faces as it navigates both specific and emerging issues,” he stated.

In the initial panel discussion, Stanley Simpson, the general secretary of the Fiji Media Association, pointed out the difficulties local media outlets and newsrooms are encountering. He noted that new technologies and constrained resources remain persistent challenges for media companies in Fiji.

More updates on the 7th PINA Media Summit will be featured in tomorrow’s edition of the Fiji Times.
