The sixth annual Joint Heads of Pacific Security (JHoPS) conference took place on Friday, featuring Aporosa Lutunauga, the Assistant Commissioner of Police for Policy, Research, and Doctrine. He was joined by Acting Superintendent of Police Ulaiasi Tamanisau.
The conference brought together leaders from customs, immigration, law enforcement, and defense sectors across the Pacific region. Key topics included the strategic counsel from Pacific Islands Forum Leaders on peace and security, along with the 2025 Strategic Framing of Collective Challenges and Priorities concerning emerging trends in the security sector.
Participants received a progress report detailing the inter-sessional working group’s initiatives, the regional operations deployment structure, and the development of the JHoPS 2025 Agenda. This event allowed security heads from Pacific nations to collaborate and formulate effective, region-specific operational strategies to address shared security challenges.
The next JHoPS meeting is set to be hosted by Papua New Guinea in March 2025.
