Public Service Commission Chairman Luke Rokovada and Permanent Secretary for Civil Service Parmesh Chand are currently in Samoa, where they are engaging in constructive discussions to enhance public service practices and address regional needs. Their presence marks an important effort to leverage Pacific expertise in devising cooperative solutions that benefit the region.
During their four-day agenda, Rokovada will connect with over 80 leaders from Public Service Commissions and senior government officials across 16 Pacific Island nations. He expressed that this gathering is a vital platform for fostering collaboration, strengthening relationships, and confronting common challenges and opportunities.
As he delivered the vote of thanks at the conference launch, Rokovada emphasized the significance of robust public service systems in overcoming future challenges and maximizing opportunities for Pacific communities. He highlighted that the insights shared during the Commissioners Fono will showcase successful, Pacific-driven solutions that can inspire meaningful change.
Furthermore, Rokovada drew attention to the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific, which conveys the vision of Pacific leaders for a resilient, safe, and inclusive region. He pointed out that achieving this vision requires public services to be trusted by citizens, adaptable, results-oriented, inclusive of all genders, and focused on the needs of the people.
Throughout the week, participants will engage in discussions spanning various subjects, including workforce sustainability, ethics in public service, reforms, and resilience-building through remuneration and rewards.
In summary, this event represents a transformative moment that seeks not only to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of public services in the Pacific but also to unite leaders in the quest for a better future for their communities. The emphasis on collaboration and shared learning reflects a hopeful outlook toward building a stronger, more resilient Pacific.
