The mission led by the Pacific Islands Forum Troika to New Caledonia is set for early October. Secretary General Baron Waqa confirmed this during a press conference today.
“Foreign leaders have reiterated their commitment to the Troika mission in New Caledonia, and we are currently in discussions with both the governments of New Caledonia and France regarding the potential deployment of the mission within October,” he stated.
The Forum has been collaborating with the French government and New Caledonia’s administration to ensure that the mission’s objectives and arrangements align with the expectations of all stakeholders involved.
Last month, the New Caledonia government raised concerns about due process and protocol, leading to a postponement of the mission. However, it has been confirmed that Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will still participate in the delegation.
The Forum Troika serves as a significant political consultative mechanism in the region, composed of Forum Leaders, and plays a vital role in promoting regional initiatives.
