Business Assistance Fiji has launched its inaugural Pacific Agri-Innovative Workshop and Pitching event in Suva. This initiative, funded by the European Union, aims to transform the agri-food system by enhancing domestic agricultural production through innovation. Over the course of two days, 11 local agricultural entrepreneurs will showcase their businesses and products while highlighting their unique talents.

Mosheen Khan, UNFAO’s National Project Coordinator, noted that the initiative is designed to promote local agricultural businesses in the Pacific region. Khan stated, “This is a new initiative funded by the European Union aimed at improving domestic agricultural production and consumption through a resilient and sustainable agri-food system transformation.”

Among the participants is Beatrice Nast, owner of Mesovu or Goat Milk Soap Pte Limited, who proudly presents her product as a first in the sector. “I think my product is very innovative because it didn’t exist before, and I envision creating an entirely new sector within the agriculture industry,” she said.

Avishay Singh, a 27-year-old director of Shahil’s Party Ice and Frozen Supplies, encouraged fellow youths in Fiji to take advantage of the land available to them, which has been pivotal to his own success. Singh received the NSME Award in 2022 and shared, “My message to all the young people in Fiji is if you have the potential to do something, use it. We have a lot of land that can be utilized wisely.”

To compete for a place as an Agri-Business incubator, participants will pitch their product and company concepts at this event, which concludes tomorrow.
