The Orca Swim Club from Suva had a remarkable performance at the Fiji Swimming Age Nationals competition, held at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala Bay. Despite having only 10 swimmers—eight girls and two boys—the club made a strong impact in the two-day event that saw participation from around 193 swimmers across seven clubs.

Assistant head coach Sereana Heritage expressed great pride in her team’s achievements, particularly highlighting the relay team in the 15-16 female category, which displayed excellent talent and teamwork. The Orca Swim Club earned an impressive total of 14 gold and nine silver medals, reflecting their commitment and hard work.

Heritage also mentioned three standout swimmers—Katelyn Smith, Keiko Smith, and Grace Khelan—who are preparing to represent Fiji at the upcoming Mini Games in Palau next year. In light of future competitions, the coaches are focused on preparing these athletes for success and medal wins for the nation.

Notably, the Orca Swim Club did not incur any fines for swimming above the qualifying time, a requirement that could lead to a $30 penalty. Heritage conveyed her pride in this accomplishment, stating, “We didn’t have to pay a fine, which was a really good thing.”
