Seven Members of Parliament from the opposition, part of the Group of 9, are set to be sworn in as Ministers today, marking a significant political shift. The group’s leader, Ioane Naivalurua, along with Viliame Naupoto and Mosese Bulitavu, is anticipated to take on key ministerial positions, while Aliki Bia, Naisa Tuinaceva, Ratu Josaia Niudamu, and Penioni Ravunawa are expected to step into roles as Assistant Ministers.
Naivalurua, previously the Police Commissioner, is likely to receive the Minister for Police portfolio. Naupoto is projected to take charge of Immigration, while Bulitavu is set to oversee the Climate Change portfolio. These important roles were previously held by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka.
In the assistant ministerial roles, Bia is expected to manage Information, Ravunawa is set for Health, Niudamu will take on Justice, and Tuinaceva, the former CEO of the LTA, will be appointed as the Assistant Minister for Transport and Infrastructure.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at the State House at 11 AM, indicating a significant step towards reshaping the government structure and addressing key areas of public concern.
