In a recent statement, Mosese Bulitavu, an opposition MP, claimed that they were powerless in their attempts to rescue the political party, FijiFirst.
Bulitavu admitted, “We couldn’t do anything,” emphasizing their lack of authority to convene any meetings. He revealed that those responsible for organizing the meetings and the annual general meeting had abandoned the party weeks before its deregistration.
The failed efforts to amend the party’s constitution was also highlighted as a significant issue, especially as Ana Mataiciwa, Supervisor of Elections, had previously underscored this. Bulitavu reported that instead of focusing on this crucial task, the party’s office bearers chose to resign.
Furthermore, these office bearers were the only individuals possessing the list of registered party member names. The implications of their resignation left the remaining members with little to no power, causing disappointment among their supporters. Bulitavu expresses his sympathy for these supporters who have been urging for the party’s revival.
