Opposition Leader Urges Inquiry Amid Serious Allegations of Interference

The Leader of the Opposition, Inia Seruiratu, has expressed serious concern regarding the allegations made by Francis Puleiwai about possible ministerial interference in the FICAC (Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption). He agrees with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka that an investigation into these claims is necessary.

Seruiratu suggested establishing an independent and impartial Commission of Inquiry to ensure transparency, fairness, and good governance. He proposes that this Commission be formed following the upcoming parliamentary session.

The proposed Commission could consist of Judicial Officers, Members of Parliament, and esteemed legal professionals from the private sector, provided they are not under investigation and can maintain impartiality without any conflicts of interest regarding the matters investigated.

He emphasized that the allegations are serious and strike at the core of good governance and democracy. Seruiratu hopes that Puleiwai will be able to discuss her allegations, allowing those implicated the opportunity to defend themselves.

He noted that this moment represents a critical juncture for the nation and stressed that as representatives of the Fijian people, they must do their utmost to uncover the truth behind these allegations and strive to restore public trust.
