The Opposition carefully evaluated potential candidates for the presidency, including President-elect Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu and outgoing President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere. Opposition Leader Inia Seruiratu extended congratulations to Ratu Naiqama, acknowledging the decision made by the electorate in favor of the Tui Cakau, who emerged victorious over the Opposition’s nominee, Vuda chief Ratu Meli Tavaiqia.

Seruiratu emphasized the significance of listening to the people’s voices, stating, “Today in the people’s House, the voice of the people has been heard.” He urged unity and support for Ratu Naiqama, wishing him wisdom and pride as he begins his new role.

He also highlighted that his nomination of Ratu Meli was in line with the 2013 Constitution, underlining the importance of offering alternatives in governance. Seruiratu reiterated that while no one is above replacement, it is crucial to assess and present the best options for the nation’s future.

This transition presents an opportunity for Ratu Naiqama to lead Fiji into a new era, and it’s hopeful to see that leaders from different sides can work together for the nation’s benefit.

In summary, the Opposition recognizes the will of the people in choosing Ratu Naiqama as President, while also asserting their role in providing alternatives. The collective wish for success in his presidency reflects a spirit of cooperation for a better Fiji.
