The Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, announced this morning that the Opposition has divided into two factions. The first group, led by Leader of Opposition Inia Seruiratu, comprises 16 members, with Jone Usamate serving as Whip and Ketan Lal as Deputy Whip. The second faction, led by Iowane Naivalurua, consists of nine members, with Viliame Naupoto as Whip and Alipate Tuicolo as Deputy Whip.
Ratu Naiqama confirmed that all 26 members remain within the Opposition but are now operating as separate blocks. He indicated that his office will assess the membership of the standing committees to guarantee equitable representation for both groups. Additionally, Alvick Maharaj has yet to make a decision regarding which faction he will join, as he is awaiting a ruling on his appeal regarding the de-registration of the FijiFirst Party.
