Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad announced that a meeting is anticipated for next week to address the challenges currently affecting the University of the South Pacific (USP). He emphasized, however, that the Government will not interfere in the university’s administration.

“Next week we will meet to discuss how we can resolve any existing issues,” Prasad stated. He further clarified, “The Government will not intervene in the governance structure of the university or in management decisions. Government representatives on the USP Council will address any concerns relating to USP during council meetings.”

Additionally, Maritino Nemani, the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Employment, was queried about whether the ministry would facilitate discussions between USP management and staff unions. He affirmed, “Yes, due process is being applied.”
