Ongoing Police Snap Checkpoints Lead to Major Drug Seizures

Law enforcement operations involving snap checkpoints and searches continue to yield significant seizures of illegal substances, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu. Divisional task forces have been setting up checkpoints based on tips and gathered information, targeting individuals who appear to be acting suspiciously.

ACP Driu reported that a Southern Division team conducted a spot check on a group of youths at a shopping complex in Laucala Beach, where a man in his 20s was found in possession of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.

In another incident in the Northern Division, a tip led to the arrest of a man allegedly involved in the sale and distribution of marijuana. The suspect was believed to have received a supply intended for sale, and a search of his home resulted in the seizure of several clear plastics containing dried leaves suspected to be marijuana. The suspect remains in police custody.

ACP Driu also noted that other raids and snap checks conducted throughout the week led to the seizure of methamphetamine and marijuana. He emphasized that the divisional task forces are adopting an aggressive approach with snap checkpoints and search efforts aimed at disrupting, dismantling, and destabilizing the illicit drug trade.

“Those found loitering or acting suspiciously will be searched and warned to leave if they do not have a valid reason for being in the area. We are committed to aggressively reducing the harm and supply of drugs,” he stated.
