Oceania Rugby has initiated its first-ever Match Official High-Performance Camp in Nadi, in partnership with World Rugby and with support from the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade through the PacificAus Sports program. This pioneering effort aims to raise officiating standards and enhance the skills of match officials throughout the Oceania region.
Richard Sapias, President of Oceania Rugby, highlighted the significance of the camp, saying, “Launching this camp in Fiji underscores our commitment to nurturing match officials and promoting excellence throughout the game.”
The camp includes a variety of rigorous training sessions, workshops, and discussions conducted by experienced referees and educators from World Rugby. It provides a crucial opportunity for match officials to refine their skills, learn about the latest developments in rugby officiating, and foster relationships within the community.
Frank Puletua, General Manager of Oceania Rugby, noted the camp’s importance in improving the abilities of local officials. He stated, “We are taking significant steps to develop and upskill our officials, pushing towards higher standards and competencies.”
