Oceania Rugby has initiated the inaugural Match Official High-Performance Camp in Nadi, following collaboration with World Rugby and support from the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade through the PacificAus Sports program. This pioneering effort is designed to improve officiating standards and enhance skills across the Oceania region.
Richard Sapias, President of Oceania Rugby, commented on the significance of the camp’s launch in Fiji, stating, “This underscores our commitment to nurturing match officials and promoting excellence throughout the game.”
The camp includes a variety of intensive training sessions, workshops, and discussions conducted by experienced referees and educators affiliated with World Rugby. It serves as a critical opportunity for match officials to refine their skills, become acquainted with the latest developments in rugby officiating, and foster relationships within the community.
Frank Puletua, General Manager of Oceania Rugby, highlighted the significance of the camp in improving the capabilities of local officials. He remarked, “We are taking significant steps to develop and upskill our officials, pushing towards higher standards and competencies.”
