Martina Kathleen Tulpe Sigrah, a 19-year-old student, is set to advocate for ocean conservation at the 2024 Miss Hibiscus Festival in Suva. Sigrah, who won a bronze medal at the 2023 Pacific Games in the V12 open 500m women’s category, is representing Island Accommodation.
Currently pursuing a degree in Journalism and Law at the University of the South Pacific, Martina hails from Rabi, known for its Banaban community, and has ties to Kiribati and Kosrae Island. She is part of a large family of eight, receiving support from her parents, three sisters, and two brothers.
Martina has been inspired by her siblings, who are passionate paddlers, since she began her own journey at the age of 14. Their encouragement has enabled her to become the first in her family to wear the national jumper and represent her country on an international stage.
In addition to her sporting achievements, Martina is a cultural dancer who shares the historical struggles of the Banaban people through her performances. Driven by her love for the ocean, she actively participates in beach clean-up initiatives to combat pollution.
Her sponsor, Island Accommodation, offers serviced apartments in Suva and Nadi, along with villas in Pacific Harbor, catering to a variety of guests including professionals, families, students, groups, and sports teams.
The Hibiscus Festival is scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 7 at the Suva Foreshore and the Civic Centre.
